Author: Cummings, Martin Marc, 1920-2011
Title: The National Library of Medicine, 1980
Occasion: Presented at the Jacksonville Rotary Club, Jacksonville, Fla.
MMC Commentary: I remember being invited to this meeting by Dr. Emmet Ferguson, a distinguished surgeon who served on the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine. My wife and I attended this meeting and were invited to stay at Dr. Ferguson's beautiful home on Ponte Vedra, Fla. When we were taken to the bedroom, Dr. Ferguson pointed to the twin beds and said to Mrs. Cummings, "You could choose between this bed where Mrs. Carter slept, or this bed were President Carter slept." I later inquired about the Carter's stay in Dr. Ferguson's home and he informed me that he and the President were roommates at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
