Title: The Medical Library in Postgraduate Work (Osler's Views Reexamined), 1969
Occasion: Trent Lecture presented at Duke University, Durham, N.C.
MMC Commentary: Carter Joseph Trent gave Duke University's school many historical volumes enriching their medical history collection. The quotations which I selected fall into two categories: those concerned with self-education or continuing education, and those relating to books, journals, and libraries. On the occasion of this speech I pointed out the close connections between Duke Medical School and the National Library of Medicine. Three Deans from Duke University Medical School had served on the Board of Regents of NLM, including Dr. W. C. Davison, Dr. Barnes Woodhall, and Dr. William Anlyan. As a gesture of our friendship, I presented on behalf of the National Library of Medicine a small historical book to the Duke historical collection.
