Title: The Use of the Library in Dental Education, 1968
Occasion: Presented at the American Association of Dental Schools, San Francisco, Ca.
MMC Commentary: I undoubtedly was invited to speak to the assembly of dental educators because the Dean of the Howard University College of Dentistry, Dr. Russell Dixon, a former member of the NLM Board of Regents, was a consultant to the National Library of Medicine. He pointed out to me that there was inadequate use of the National Library of Medicine's resources by dentists. It was for this reason that I attempted to provide an invitation for every dental practitioner to make more use of resources that might be helpful to them in dental education, research and practice. Several months prior to this talk, the National Library of Medicine was presented several outstanding lithographs by distinguished artists revealing the practice of dentistry in the 19th century. The prints and many others from a library collection were published in NLM catalogs.
