Biographical Note

Robert A. Harte graduated from the College of the City of New York with a degree in chemistry in 1931. He continued training in his native city at Columbia before joining the Rockefeller Institute in 1932. While there he studied and wrote about group specific substances of human origin and elementarymicroanalysis. He served as Chief Research Chemist at the Arlington Chemical Company from 1942 until 1949 when he became Coordinator of Scientific Administration at Sharp and Dohme, Inc. Harte was the first manager of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and executive officer for the American Society of Biological Chemists. He died in 1977.
