Avery, Oswald Theodore, 1877-1955 / [1912-2005] | Title: Oswald T. Avery Collection 1912-2005 Abstract: Artificial collection of primarily secondary research materials and photocopies of originals from the Rockefeller Archive Center assembled by Avery's colleague Joshua Lederberg. Avery's career focused on a "systematic effort to understand the biological activities of pathogenic bacteria through a knowledge of their chemical composition," focusing most of his research on a single species of pneumococcus, Diplococcus pneumoniae. The collection falls roughly into two parts: items related to the discovery of the transforming principle and items related to the discovery's reception by the scientific community. |
