Abstract: Greenleaf was born in Pennsylvania and educated at the Medical College of Ohio, graduating in 1860. During the Civil War, he oversaw construction of Philadelphia's Mower Hospital on Chestnut Hill, which was at the time the largest military hospital in the world. He introduced a system of personal identification used by the army and organized the army's Hospital Corps.

Abstract: Dr. Alan Gregg was with the Rockefeller Foundation from 1922 to 1956, the year he retired. He was Associate Director in the Division of Medical Education, 1922-1930; Director of the Division of Medical Sciences, 1930-1951; and, Vice-President of the Foundation, 1951-1956. Correspondence, journals, notes, oral history transcripts, scrapbooks, printed matter, and reprints. Personal items include family letters, biographical profiles, reflections and observations, diaries, and commonplace books.

Abstract: The Group Health Association (GHA) was formed on January 28, 1937 in Washington, D.C.; it incorporated and held its first membership meeting on March 22, 1937. The Association's original goal was to provide employees of the Home Owners Loan Corporation (HOLC) with quality health care through a member-controlled organization. GHA became one of the first HMO's nearly four decades before legislation supporting such organizations existed. The Group Health Association archives consists of over 500 boxes (ca. 503 linear feet) of corporate records dating from 1937-1994. Meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, publications, subject files, financial ledgers, departmental records, and audio and visual materials document the activities of the leadership and membership of GHA.
