Biographical Note

U.S. Public Health Service Assistant Surgeon Louis Jacobs served as medical officer on U.S. Coast Guard Ship 'Campbell' under the command of Joseph Greenspun in 1940. Based at Staten Island, NY, the 'Campbell' was in the North Atlantic for a period during April. From June through September it was either at sea or at Godthaab, Greenland.


Contains records kept by Jacobs, then a U.S. Public Health Service officer, while assigned to the Campbell as medical officer. Includes reports of illness among the crew, blank forms, correspondence, orders, and a copy of the Coast Guard's "Instructions for medical officers relative to physical examinations," published in 1935.
