1912-2005
2.6 linear feet (6 boxes)
Artificial collection of primarily secondary research materials and photocopies of originals from the Rockefeller Archive Center assembled by Avery's colleague Joshua Lederberg. Avery's career focused on a "systematic effort to understand the biological activities of pathogenic bacteria through a knowledge of their chemical composition," focusing most of his research on a single species of pneumococcus, Diplococcus pneumoniae. The collection falls roughly into two parts: items related to the discovery of the transforming principle and items related to the discovery's reception by the scientific community. MS C 497 English.
